Lorem ipsum generator: questions and answers
What is lorem ipsum?
Placeholder text used in design and publishing so a layout can be judged without real copy. The classic version is scrambled Latin.
Is the generator free?
Yes. It is free and needs no sign-up.
Can I copy the text as HTML or Markdown?
Yes. Copy as plain text, HTML or Markdown.
Why use placeholder text at all?
It shows how a design handles text of realistic length. Replace it before launch. The launch checklist on this site has a check for leftover lorem.
Can I get placeholder text in English instead of Latin?
Yes. Switch the flavour to plain English for readable dummy text, or project-manager speak for something a little more fun.
Can the text start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet”?
Yes. Turn on the option to start with the classic opening line. Use Shuffle to get fresh text.
