How to make an invoice

  1. Pick a template and add your details

Choose one of 15 templates and an accent colour. Enter your business, your client and the invoice number, and add a logo and signature if you want them. Your details are remembered for the next invoice.

  2. List what you are charging for

Add each item with a quantity and a rate. Choose no tax, tax on each item, or tax on the whole invoice, with presets for your country. Add a discount or a deposit if needed.

  3. Print or save as PDF

Press Print or save as PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print window. You can also save the invoice as a file to edit later.

Most free invoice makers want an account, put their name across the page or keep your client list on their servers. This one does none of that. It is a form and a live preview, and the PDF comes from your browser’s own print function, so it works with any currency symbol and any language you type.

What it does

  • 15 templates, from Classic and Minimal to Editorial, Swiss, Ledger, Receipt and Midnight, each tinted by your accent colour.
  • A signature you draw, type or upload, with a label and your name under it.
  • Your logo in three sizes, with business details, bank or UPI details and notes on every invoice.
  • Line items with quantity and rate, and three ways to handle tax: none, a rate on each item, or one or more taxes on the whole invoice.
  • Percentage or fixed discount, and an amount already paid, with the balance due shown.
  • 37 currencies shown as a symbol or a code, number grouping to suit your market (such as 1,00,000 for India), A4 or Letter paper and five accent colours.
  • Optional amount in words, in the Indian lakh and crore style for rupees.
  • Save an invoice as a file and open it later, or start the next one with your details already filled in.

Invoice Generator: questions and answers

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on the number of invoices and no watermark. A small “made with” footer is available but it is off unless you switch it on.

How do I get a PDF?

Press Print or save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF as the destination in the print window. The invoice is laid out for A4 or Letter paper, whichever you pick, and the invoice number is suggested as the file name.

Is my client and business data uploaded?

No. Everything stays in your browser. Your details are saved in your browser’s own storage so they are ready next time, and you can wipe them with Clear saved data. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I charge GST or VAT?

Yes. Choose Tax on each item to give every line its own rate, and lines at the same rate are grouped, so an invoice with 18% and 5% items shows both tax amounts. Or choose Tax on the whole invoice to apply one or more taxes at once, such as CGST 9% plus SGST 9%, or GST 5% plus PST 7%. Pick a region to fill in its usual names and rates, and edit them if yours differ. Check the tax rules and invoice requirements for your country, since this tool does not know them.

Can I make an invoice with no tax?

Yes. Choose No tax and the invoice shows only the subtotal and total. Use the notes box to give a reason if you need one, for example an export or reverse charge.

What if my prices already include tax?

Tick the box that says prices include tax. The total then stays as the sum of your prices and the invoice shows how much of it is tax, for example Includes VAT 20%.

How do CGST and SGST work here?

For India, pick the India GST region and tick the box to split GST into CGST and SGST for a same-state sale. A rate of 18% becomes CGST 9% and SGST 9%. For a sale to another state, leave it unticked and use IGST as the tax name or choose the IGST set-up.

Can I add a signature?

Yes. Draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, type your name in a script style, or upload a photo or scan of your signature. A scanned signature on white paper blends into the invoice. It is saved in your browser only, and it is not a legally verified digital signature.

Which template should I use?

Classic and Minimal suit most freelancers. Modern and Bold give a stronger brand look, and Elegant suits consultants and creative work. Boxed fits businesses that want a formal, ruled layout. Switching is instant and keeps everything you typed.

How is the invoice number handled?

Type any format you like, such as INV-0042 or 2026/014. When you press New invoice the trailing number goes up by one, and your business details stay filled in.

Can I edit an invoice later?

Yes. Use Save invoice file to download it, and Open invoice file to load it back. The file is plain JSON, so keep it with your records.
