Common sizes

Exam sizes are from recent notices (checked October 2026). Rules change, so always use the numbers in your own notice.

How to resize a photo or signature for a form

  1. Pick a size

Choose Photo, Signature or Any image, then a common size, or type the numbers from your form: pixels or mm, and the smallest and largest file size.

  2. Position the picture

Drop your image, drag it into the frame and zoom until your face or signature sits where you want it.

  3. Check and download

The gauge shows where the file lands inside the allowed weight. Download when it turns green.

Online forms for exams, jobs, visas and scholarships often want a photo of an exact size in pixels and a file weight in a narrow range, such as 20 to 50 KB. Getting there by hand means trial and error across three apps. This tool does the crop, the resize and the compression in one place, and shows you the result against the limit before you upload anything.

What it does

  • Crops to the exact shape: pixels, millimetres, centimetres or inches, with the dpi you choose.
  • Finds the best picture quality that still fits the file size window, so the photo stays as sharp as the limit allows.
  • Measures the file so it passes whether the portal counts 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes.
  • Reaches a minimum file size by adding invisible filler to the JPG, so the picture itself is untouched.
  • Adds a name and today’s date strip under a photo, for forms that ask for one.
  • Cleans up a signature photographed on paper: whiter paper, darker ink.
  • Writes the resolution into the file, and leaves out the location and camera data your phone put in the original.

Limits, honestly

  • Sizes differ between forms and change from year to year. Use the numbers in your own notice, not the examples on this page.
  • The result is a JPG, which is what almost every form asks for. PNG and WebP are not offered.
  • HEIC photos open in Safari only. On other browsers, share the photo from your phone as a JPG first.
  • It cannot add detail that is not there. A blurry or dark photo stays blurry, so take a sharp, evenly lit one.
  • If a very small weight limit cannot be met at your exact pixel size, the tool says so. Untick keep the exact size to let it shrink the pixels.

Exam Photo & Signature Resizer: questions and answers

How do I resize a photo to 20–50 KB?

Choose Photo, set the largest file size to 50 and the smallest to 20, drop your picture and download. The tool searches for the highest picture quality that keeps the file inside that window, and shows the result on a gauge before you download.

Can I get exact pixels like 200 × 230?

Yes. Pick pixels as the unit and type the width and height. For a physical size such as 35 × 45 mm, pick mm and set the resolution, 200 dpi by default. The picture is cropped to that shape, and you drag and zoom to choose what stays in the frame.

Why does a portal sometimes say my file is too big or too small?

Some portals count 1 KB as 1000 bytes and others as 1024. This tool keeps the file inside the window under both ways of counting, so it passes either check. If a portal still refuses it, its limit may differ from the one you typed.

What if my photo cannot reach the minimum size?

A small, simple picture can come out lighter than the minimum. The tool then pads the JPG with invisible filler data until it reaches the minimum. Viewers and upload checks see the same picture, just a heavier file.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The picture is cropped and compressed by your browser on your own device. There is no upload, no account and nothing stored. The location and camera data inside the original photo are not copied into the result.

How should I photograph my signature?

Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper in good, even light, and keep the paper flat. Crop close to the signature. Then tick the clean-up option to whiten the paper and darken the ink.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Choose a photo from your gallery or take one, drag it into the frame with your finger and download the JPG. HEIC photos from an iPhone open in Safari; on other browsers share the photo as a JPG first.
