Cookie policy

Cookies are small files a site saves in your browser. Browser storage (localStorage) works in a similar way. This page lists what this site uses.

01Always on

These are needed for the site to work, so they do not need consent:

  • Your cookie choice (localStorage key apConsent): remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics.
  • A notice you closed (localStorage key apNoticeX): keeps a site notice hidden after you close it.
  • Your drafts and settings (keys that start with ap, such as apInvoice, apResume, apTz, apEstimate, apLowGfx and the ride progress keys): saved in your browser so a tool or the 3D site remembers you. They are never sent to me.

02Analytics, only if you accept

  • Google Analytics 4: sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID. They tell visits and visitors apart. Google normally keeps them for up to two years.
  • Microsoft Clarity: sets cookies such as _clck and _clsk, and may set MUID or CLID. They link your page views into one session for heatmaps and replays. They last from one day to about a year.

The exact names and lifetimes are set by Google and Microsoft and can change. If you reject analytics, these scripts do not load and these cookies are not set.

03Form protection, when you use a form

The contact form and the newsletter form use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. When you click into a form, your browser loads a script from Cloudflare. It looks at signals from your browser, such as your IP address, and may keep small bits of data in your browser for the check. It is a security measure, so it does not wait for your analytics choice. I do not use it for advertising or tracking. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

04No cookies

Vercel Web Analytics, if it is turned on, counts visits without cookies.

Ahrefs Web Analytics counts page views and where visitors come from without cookies and without storing anything in your browser. It runs on every page and does not wait for your analytics choice, because it does not identify you. See Ahrefs’ privacy policy.

05Change your choice

Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page, then choose Accept or Reject. Rejecting also removes the analytics cookies this site set. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, I treat it as a rejection.
